The Year 3/4 students of Parap Primary School in Darwin reflected on resilience, tolerance and discovered through wise decision making how they could be positive influencers in their community.
The students had great support from their local community in particular Parap Post Office, Fannie Bay Cool Spot and Parap Fine Foods who allowed them to display their SEATs in the lead-up to their SEAT auction (2 SEATs purchased by Parap Fine Foods!!).
To top it all off, and complete their investigation into refugees in Australia, Year 3/4 were visited by some newly settled families!
My class and I got a bit carried away with exploring all of the issues out there locally and globally. The students researched homelessness, drought in Australia, equal access to education and poverty. They also explored some of the 17 global goals.
The five Year 4/3 classes focussed their attention on supporting these organisations:
- Shelterbox Australia
- Food Bank NT
- The Refugee Council of Australia
- World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)
The students successfully planned and held a silent auction at the Parap Markets to promote their causes and raise funds.”
